- Utica College, in collaboration with Katherine T. Carter and Associates, will present the art of A.J. Nadel, an artist and photographer, in the Edith Langley Barrett Fine Art Gallery. The exhibit, titled “Doubling, Cutting, Pasting: Figures Re-invented,” features the artist’s photography, but in a different way than people may expect. The Polaroid pictures that Nadel takes are superimposed onto other Polaroid shots, allowing them to become amalgams of color and shape. “The figures are partially frayed yet - and this is what makes the work most compelling - they are rewound enough to stand as recognizable individuals,” art critic Hamid Irbouh said. Nadel’s art composes the trials and struggles of the human body, creating art from the movements and poses that define a person.
The exhibit will be featured in the gallery from Nov. 9 to Dec. 21, with a “meet the artist” reception to be held Monday, Nov. 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. No photography of the art is allowed in the gallery, by request of the artist himself.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information on this event, call (315) 792-3815, or visit UC’s website at www.utica.edu/culture.
