RESIDENCE HALL CLOSING
Spring —2008

All Residence Halls will officially close for the summer break on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 10 a.m. All students are expected to vacate their rooms within 24-hours following their last exam. Since summer school begins on May 27th, we need all non-seniors to leave in a timely manner.

Graduating seniors who wish to remain on-campus anytime between Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 10 a.m. and Monday, May 19, 2008, at 10 a.m. must receive permission from the Office of Residence Life (ORL) by Noon, Friday, May 9th. All residential students who are registered with the Office of the Registrar to graduate will be automatically granted permission to remain in their rooms.

Non-seniors who have an extenuating circumstance and need an extension must also receive advance permission and have a valid approved reason (from ORL by Friday, May 9th) to remain in residence after 10 a.m., Thursday, May 15th. The ability for non-seniors to remain on campus will be seriously limited, and anyone, including graduating seniors, found violating College policy will be asked to immediately vacate the Halls. ORL reserves the right to deny extension requests. Only graduating seniors will be allowed to stay until Monday, May 19th.

Only students with prior authorization will be allowed to remain on campus past 10 a.m., May 15th . . . no exceptions!

24-HOUR QUIET HOURS:

Strict 24-hour quiet hours will begin Wednesday, May 7th at 10:00 PM and continue until the residence halls close at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15th. Anxiety levels usually increase during exam week . . . so study hard, get adequate sleep, and be considerate of others. Violations of quiet hours or other policies will result in disciplinary action and/or immediate dismissal from the halls.

EXPRESS CHECKOUT:

Express Check-out is also an option for all residential students. By completing an Express Checkout, your Resident Assistant will inspect your room after your departure and will note any differences between the check-in condition of your room as noted on your Room Condition Report and the check-out condition they observe. You may be held responsible for the repair and/or cleaning charges associated with these differences.

Please note: If you choose the Express Checkout option, you waive your right to appeal any assessed repair or cleaning charges.

To complete an Express Check-out, follow these steps:

  1. Go to North Hall front door vestibule (facing the parking lots) and fill out an Express Check-out envelope available there.
  2. Place all Utica College keys in the envelope and seal.
  3. Put your envelope in the box located in the vestibule.
You’re done!

ROOM CHECK-OUT PROCESS:

·             Contact ORL by May 9th if you need permission to stay past Thursday, May 15th at 10 a.m.

·             Attend your "closing floor meeting" or see your RA/RD regarding the procedure to "check-out" of your room.

·             Your room/apartment/suite cannot be checked out and Room Condition Report reviewed until all of your belongings are completely removed from the room/apartment/suite.

·             Your room should be in the same condition (or better) as when you moved into it.

·             If you do not check out with an RA or complete and Express Checkout, you will be forfeiting the opportunity to appeal any room-related charges.

·             DO NOT leave your key with a friend, roommate, on your desk, or slid under your RA’s door. Any key that is not returned to Residence Life as a result of these actions will be considered lost, and will be subject to a lock change charge. All keys must be handed IN PERSON to a Residence Life staff member or an Express Checkout must be completed.
