WEIMER NAMED UC HEAD BASEBALL COACH

Utica College Athletic Director Jim Spartano Friday named Andrew Weimer head baseball coach. Weimer, a New Hartford native, joins the Utica baseball staff as head coach after spending the last six years as a professional baseball player.

SIX BASEBALL PLAYERS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE STATUS

Six student-athletes from the Utica College baseball team were named to the 2009 Empire 8 All-Conference Team released Tuesday by the conference office. Sophomore classmates Jon Meyer and Justin Engelhardt, along with senior Kelvin Cabrera earned second team status, while junior Russ Haentges and sophomores Chris Hine and Adam Bittel were named to the honorable mention list.

BASEBALL CLOSES OUT 2009 CAMPAIGN WITH TWO LOSSES AT OSWEGO

The Utica College baseball team lost both ends of a double header against host Oswego State Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers dropped game one 25-4, before falling in game two 4-2. Jon Meyer went 2-for-6 with three RBIs on the day, while freshman Zach LeBlanc belted his first collegiate home run. UC wraps up its 2009 campaign with a 5-27 overall record.
