Jake Basher Jake Basher was hired as an assistant coach for the Utica College track and field teams in the summer of 2009. He will be responsible for overseeing the men’s and women’s throwers as well as assisting Head Coach Jason Rose with all facets of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams.
His previous coaching experience includes a one year stint as strength and conditioning intern at Division I Ohio University. Basher served as the head strength coach for women’s track and field, cheerleading and men’s club rugby teams. He was also assistant strength coach for the football and women’s soccer programs. He assisted the head strength coach in supervising the football team during strength training and also developed a speed and agility program for the women’s soccer team.
Prior to Ohio University he spent three months as a volunteer throws coach at his alma mater, Brockport State, where he was responsible for assisting the head throws coach. While at Brockport he aided in coaching two All-Americans in the shot put and hammer throw.
From August, 2007-March, 2008 Basher was the indoor track and field assistant strength conditioning/throws coach at Geneseo State where he coached eight throwers in shot put and weight throw.
Basher is a 2007 graduate of Brockport State where he earned a degree in physical education with a focus on exercise physiology. As a track & field student-athlete at Brockport he accumulated several honors including the 2007 Outdoor Division III National Runner Up (hammer) and the Indoor Division III National Runner Up (weight). He was a two-time Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Champion in the weight throw and he was also the New York State College Track Conference Indoor Champion in the weight throw in 2006.
Basher has certifications in CSCS as well as Westside Barbell Certification and Red Cross CPR/AED.
Originally from Lancaster, NY he currently resides in Utica.
