BOX SCORE

UTICA, Ny - Junior midfielder Sarah Keller knocked home a crossing pass from classmate Erin Murphy in the 16th minute to give the Utica College field hockey team a 1-0 lead over visiting Oswego State Wednesday night.  One goal was all the Pioneers defense would need as they held the Lakers to just two shots and earned the 1-0 victory on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  Sophomore goalie Monica Storms stopped two shots in her second shut out in three games for UC.

With the win the Pioneers improved to 2-1 overall after going 1-1 in the Utica College Invitational last weekend.  The Pioneers have now defeated Oswego in three consecutive contests dating back to 2007 and they have outscored the Lakers 10-2 over the course of those three games.  Oswego drops to 1-2 overall on the year after Wednesdays loss.

The Pioneers outshot Oswego 19-2 on the day and also earned a 10-5 penalty corner advantage.

Oswego junior keeper Jaime Scharfe stopped 11 shots, including two beautiful kick saves to preserve the one goal deficit, as she lost her second game of the season.

2008 Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year Rebecca Corsones totaled a career-high 11 shots but she could not seem to find the back of the cage.

The Pioneers hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday when they travel to Clinton, NY to take on local rival Hamilton College in a non conference contest.  The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
