BENKWITT NAMED ECAC DIVISION III ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Freshman quarterback Andrew Benkwitt of the Utica College football team was named ECAC Division III Rookie of the Year Thursday at the annual ECAC Football Banquet on the grounds at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J. Benkwitt beat out three other freshman candidates from the Northeast, Southeast and Southwest regions to earn the prestigious honor.

RECORD CROWD AS UC FOOTBALL HOSTS ANNUAL BANQUET

The Utica College football team hosted its annual banquet at the Hart’s Hill Inn Sunday. The ceremony brought together over 275 players, coaches, parents and supporters to recognize the achievements of the 2009 season. Jason Powles, of WKTV, greeted the crowd and introduced the coaching and support staff during the welcome.

KAHL TO BE HONORED AS NFF SCHOLAR ATHLETE ON SUNDAY

Senior linebacker Eric Kahl (Lockwood, N.Y.) of the Utica College football team will be honored as a scholar athlete by the Central New York Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame Sunday. 65 other football players from the high school and collegiate ranks around the region will also be honored during the ceremony at Turning Stone Resort. The ceremony, which is expected to be attended by nearly 700 people, will begin at 4 p.m.
