KAHL SELECTED TO PLAY IN PRESTIGIOUS 'TAZON DE ESTRELLAS' GAME IN MEXICO

#50 Eric Kahl UTICA, NY (11/19/09) – Senior linebacker Eric Kahl (Lockwood, NY) of the Utica College football team has been selected by the Stars & Stripes coaching staff to be a roster player for the Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) in Mexico on December 19th. With this honor comes the opportunity for Kahl to represent Utica College, Division III football, and his country, playing American football on an international stage.
“This is truly a great honor and opportunity, not just for Eric, but for the entire program,’ says Utica College Head Coach Blaise Faggiano. “To have one of our players representing Utica College and the entire country on an international stage is phenomenal. This is certainly an experience that Eric will never forget.”
Kahl, along with 49 other teammates from Division III football across the United States, will take on the Tec de Monterrey Universities in Mexico.
Kahl, who missed three games this season due to a broken foot, is a three-time Empire 8 All-Conference selection and he most recently was named to the all-conference first team after he led Utica with 74 tackles. He also ranked second in the conference this season averaging 10.6 tackles per game. He finished his four year career ranked third on the College’s all-time tackles list (261 tackles). Last season Kahl led Utica as well as the conference in total tackles with 116 and he averaged 11.60 tackles per game, which was good for 15th in the nation among Division III players. To go along with the rigors of playing football Kahl is also enrolled in the College’s physical therapy program.
