#15 Doug Herring

Utica, NY (March 25, 2009) – Senior Doug Herring (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie) of the Utica College men’s basketball team was named to the NABC Division III All-District East Region second team on Monday. Herring was also named to the Empire 8 Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team for the 2008-2009 season, earning first team honors for the third consecutive year.

Herring was named conference player of the week three times in four years and the College’s male athlete of the week twice this past season.

Herring finished the season third in the conference in steals (52) and ninth in the conference in scoring with 15.6 points per game and earned three double-doubles to finish the regular season. He also finished in fourth place and tallied a team-high 109 assists (4.19 per game) and 17 blocks in 25 contests. For his career, Herring ranks first on the College’s all-time assists list with 451 and is second all-time in career scoring with 1,587 points.

The Pioneers finished third in the conference boasting a 17-8 overall record and going 11-5 in Empire 8 play. The No. 3 seeded Pioneers lost to eventual conference champion RIT in the conference tournament semifinals to end their 2008-2009 campaign.
