UTICA, NY (10/29/09) – The Utica College men’s hockey team is set to host nationally-ranked No. 2 Neumann University (2-0) in its regular season opener at the Utica Memorial Auditorium Friday night. The contest is the first ECAC Men’s West Conference contest of the season for both squads. Tickets for the game are $2 for non UC students and $5 for adults.

The Pioneers are fresh off an exhibition loss to the U.S. Under 18 National Team last Friday night in front of a 3,677 fans at the Aud. Team USA went on to defeat Cornell University, 3-2, the next day before knocking off Colgate University, 4-1, on Sunday.

“Our schedule has never been this difficult right out of the gates and it begins Friday night with defending national champion Neumann,” said ninth year Head Coach Gary Heenan. “Neumann is playing with a ton of confidence right now - after two wins on opening weekend - and we are in for an exciting game that’s for sure.”

Neumann University, coached by former Utica assistant coach and Utica native Dominick Dawes, is currently 2-0 after two convincing victories of Geneseo State last weekend. Neumann outscored Geneseo 8-2 over the course of two games.

The Pioneers return 20 players from last year’s roster, including eight seniors, and their top four scorers. Sophomore Tim Coffman, last year’s conference rookie of the year, returns after scoring a team-high 37 points on 17 goals and 20 assists last season.
