Mike Parnell THE PARNELL REPORT UTICA, NY – Utica College men’s lacrosse coach Mike Parnell wrapped up his first season as an assistant coach for the Chicago Machine of the MLL (Major League Lacrosse) on Saturday. Parnell, who is entering his fifth season as head coach at Utica, spent nearly every weekend this summer traveling around the country coaching some of the top lacrosse players in the United States.
“This was a great experience for me and I am thankful to Coach Combes, who I worked with at Colgate earlier in my career, for giving me the opportunity to coach at the highest level of lacrosse,” said Parnell. “I learned a lot this summer and I look forward to using those learning experiences this year at Utica College.”
Parnell was primarily responsible for working with the offense, which ranked fifth in the league after totaling 242 total points, including 148 goals. As a team the Machine finished with a 3-9 overall record and missed out on a bid to the playoffs by three games.
On Saturday, August 1st the Machine squared off against the Washington Bayhawks on ESPN2, marking Parnell’s coaching debut on national television. The Machine lost a close contest to the Bayhawks, 17-16, in overtime.
Parnell coached the UC men’s lacrosse team to eight victories last season, tying a school record for wins in a single season. As a team, UC scored 289 points (175 goals, 114 assists), good for second all-time. The Pioneers placed two athletes on Empire 8 All-Conference teams and they lost just five seniors to graduation headed into their 2010 campaign.
