Kassof, Murphy, Ilebani BOX SCORE WILLIAMSPORT, Pa - Four different Pioneers scored assisted goals as the Utica College men's soccer team evened its record to 1-1 overall after a 4-0 victory over Centenary Sunday at the Lycoming Kickoff Classic in Williamsport, Pa. UC dominated the match from start to finish and out shot the Cyclones 19-2 on the day.
Junior goalie Kevin Murphy, sophomore defender Jeff Kassouf and freshman forward Oluwaseun Ilebani earned All-Tournament Team honors for their efforts over the weekend.
UC, which lost its opening match 3-1 at the hands of nationally-ranked Dickinson College, showed great resilience in game two by jumping out to a 3-0 first half lead. Sophomore Jeremy Pierce began the Pioneers onslaught by netting his first goal of the season after a pass into the box from all conference midfielder David Garcia.
Just under 14 minutes later sophomore Bryan Lawler netted his first goal of the season off an assist from senior captain Andrew Witherspoon following a throw in.
Ilebani, a freshman from Nigeria, is proving he has a great scoring touch up top and netted his team-best second goal of the season just 25 seconds before the end of the first half. His goal, a header, gave UC a 3-0 lead and was assisted by senior Jared Tunkel.
Junior Nate Broedel got in on the action with just over five minutes to go in the contest to give UC a commanding 4-0 lead. Broedel, a division I transfer in his second year at Utica, now has four career goals in two seasons at UC.
The Pioneers will be tested once again when they take on visiting Hobart College Wednesday on the grass at the Utica College soccer pitch. The contest between the two non conference rivals is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
