UTICA, N.Y. – The Utica College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision against nationally-ranked No. 10 Hobart College at Herkimer County Community College Wednesday afternoon. UC junior goalie Kevin Murphy (West Islip, NY) stopped seven shots in his second loss of the season.

Hobart is now 3-0 and they have outscored all three of their Empire 8 opponents (RIT, Nazareth, Utica) by a score of 9-1. The Pioneers were able to hold the Statesmen to their lowest scoring output so far this season.

Hobart’s Reuben Burk opened the scoring in the 28th minute when he received a pass from Will Abbott in front of the net and knocked home his first goal of the season to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The Statesmen added a late goal in the 76th minute when Tommy Hayes connected with Will Abbott to give Hobart a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish. Hayes currently leads Hobart with seven points on the year (two goals, three assists).

UC returns to action next Wednesday when they travel to Saratoga to take on Skidmore College in a non conference contest at Wachenheim Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
