TROY, NY - The Utica College men's soccer team (3-5) dropped a 3-1 decision against nationally-ranked No. 6 RPI (8-0-1) Wednesday night at Renwyck Field.  Junior Nathan Broedel (Hamilton, NY) netted a goal off a penalty kick in the 39th minute to lead Utica.

The Pioneers fell behind in the first two minutes of the contest after a foul call at the top of the box resulted in a penalty kick for the Engineers.  Lincoln Field netted the  penalty shot and the Pioneers found themselves in a 1-0 hole at 1:40.

RPI then added another goal in the 10th minute of the contest to take a 2-0 lead after Tom Kelly ripped a bullet from 25 yards out.

UC responded after another foul call in the box gave the Pioneers a chance to cut the Engineers lead in half.  Broedel converted on the penalty shot at 39:45 and the Pioneers found themselves within striking distance as they entered the half.  Broedel now has five career goals.

RPI's Sean Fleury added an insurance goal for RPI in the second half to close out the scoring on the day.

UC goalie Kevin Murphy (West Islip, NY) made three saves in net for Utica.

The Pioneers return to Empire 8 Conference play this weekend when they hit the road for a two game set.  The Pioneers will take on the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College on the turf at Growney Stadium Saturday before traveling to Alfred University Sunday.  Both contests are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
