The Utica College women’s hockey team (0-2-0) played in two games over the weekend, both on the road. In the first contest they traveled to Northfield, VT to challenge 2008-09 NCAA Tournament participant Norwich University (1-0-0) at Kreitzberg Arena, UC lost 4-2. On Saturday, the Pioneers traveled to New Hampshire to play New England College (1-0-0) at Henniker, NH, the Pioneers lost this game as well, 1-0.

In the first game against Norwich, UC was out shot 35-19. Norwich scored a goal in the first two periods and two in the third. Utica College scored one goal in the second period and one in the third. In the second period, the Pioneers' goal was scored by Jona Johnson and assisted by Meagan Sudik and Carmen Johnson. During the third period, Mackenzie Roy netted a goal that was assisted by Tiffany Bichrest and Darcy Heir. UC goaltender Jill Doherty had 31 saves, 25 of those saves coming in the second and third periods.

During the second game versus New England College, the Pioneers out shot the home team 32-25. New England College had 13 shots on goal in the second period, one of which ended up being the game-winner. For UC, Dacry Heir and Andrea Maxon led the team with five shots on goal each and Samantha Glockling and Mackenzie Roy each had four shots on goal. Pioneers goaltender Jill Doherty, who was noted as one of the stars for the game after her 24 save performance, was in net for 58:50.

The Utica College women’s hockey team is back on the ice Friday and Saturday, at The Utica Memorial Auditorium. They will be challenged by Adrian College in both contests. Friday’s contest, which will be held at 4 p.m., will be the AmeriCU "Pink the Rink” benefit. The Utica college women will wear collector’s edition pink jerseys for this game. Saturday’s game will also be held at 4 p.m. The Adrian College Bulldogs are out of Adrian, MI and are currently 0-2-0 after being swept by Neumann in their season opener. The Pioneers and the Bulldogs last met back in November of 2007 where the teams split a two game series at The Auditorium in Utica, NY.
