UC LOSES FOUR GAMES OVER THE WEEKEND

#6 Amanda Sulicz (April 5, 2009) – The Utica College women’s water polo team lost four games on the road this past Friday and Saturday. Junior Amanda Sulicz led the way for the Pioneers with six goals over the course of the four contests.
On Friday the Pioneers took on Brown University losing 13-3 and then lost to Hartwick College by a 17-3 mark. Against Brown three different Pioneers scored, while senior Erin Schinasi picked up all three assist. Amanda Sulicz, Lisa Torri, and Alyssa Cortese were all credited with a goal each against the Bears. UC was only able to gather three goals against Hartwick in the second match of the day. Lisa Torii led the team against the Hawks picking up two goals, while Amanda Sulicz also scored one goal. Sophomore Alyssa Cortese had a hand in the scoring snagging two assists for the contest.
On Saturday the Pioneers took on Harvard University losing by a score of 19-2, and then went on to lose a hard fought battle against Connecticut College. In the first game, Mary Anne Tomko and Kristyn Galbraith both scored an unassisted goal against Harvard. The most exciting game of the weekend came against Connecticut College where the Pioneers were only down one goal at half time. Amanda Sulicz paved the way for the Pioneers scoring four goals, while freshman classmates Lisa Torii and Alice Rupp both added two goals. The Pioneers were held to one goal in the second half and lost the competition 16-8. Sophomore goalie Kera Langdon picked up nine saves on the contest.
The Pioneers have now dropped to a 2-12 overall record for the season. UC returns to action on Saturday, April 18 when they play in the Northern Division Championships. The conference tournament is set to take place at Connecticut College where the No. 5 seeded Pioneers will take on the No. 4 seed at 11 a.m.
