#3 Tammy Kohanski UTICA, NY (May 22, 2009) – Sophomore
Tammy Kohanski (Syracuse, NY) of the Utica College women’s lacrosse team was named to the 2009 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Associations (IWLCA) Division III Empire All-Region Second Team released Thursday by the IWLCA office. The IWLCA has honored 224 student-athletes in Division III with a selection on one of the All-Region teams for 2009. These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 22.
Kohanski, a two-time all-region second team selection and two-time Empire 8 Conference First Team pick, finished the season ranked second in the conference with 52 goals. The former conference and ECAC Rookie of the Year is one of four players in the Empire 8 to score 60+ points this year and she now ranks second on the College’s all-time scoring list with 150 career points (121 goals, 29 assists). Kohanski needs just 17 points next season to tie Kristy Patchett ’03 as the College’s all-time leading scorer. Kohanski has scored at least one point in every game she has ever played in at UC and she is currently enjoying a 31-game scoring streak. She has netted four or more points in 19 games and she has also totaled 67 ground balls over the course of two seasons.
The Pioneers closed out their 2009 campaign with an 8-6 overall record, including a 4-4 mark in the conference for the second consecutive season. Also, for the second straight year, UC missed out on a bid to the Empire 8 Conference Tournament by just one game after dropping its last two contests of the regular season and finishing in fifth place overall. As a team the Pioneers set a new school record after averaging 12.21 goals per contest in 14 games played in 2009.
