ECAC 2009 Division III Upstate All-Stars

UTICA, NY – Sophomore Tammy Kohanski (Syracuse, NY) of the Utica College women’s lacrosse team was named to the 2009 ECAC Division III Upstate Women’s Lacrosse All-Star First Team for the second consecutive season released Tuesday by the ECAC communications office. Kohanski joins 11 other student-athletes from the Upstate region on the First Team and she is one of three repeat selections.

Kohanski, a two-time Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection and IWLCA Division III Empire All-Region Second Teamer, finished the season ranked second in the conference with 52 goals. The former conference and ECAC Rookie of the Year is one of four players in the Empire 8 to score 60+ points this year and she now ranks second on the College’s all-time scoring list with 150 career points (121 goals, 29 assists). Kohanski needs just 17 points next season to tie Kristy Patchett ’03 as the College’s all-time leading scorer. Kohanski has scored at least one point in every game she has ever played in at UC and she is currently enjoying a 31-game scoring streak. She has netted four or more points in 19 games and she has also totaled 67 ground balls over the course of two seasons.

The Pioneers closed out their 2009 campaign with an 8-6 overall record, including a 4-4 mark in the conference for the second consecutive season. Also, for the second straight year, UC missed out on a bid to the Empire 8 Conference Tournament by just one game after dropping its last two contests of the regular season and finishing in fifth place overall. As a team the Pioneers set a new school record after averaging 12.21 goals per contest in 14 games played in 2009.
