7:30 PM	Group Seating for Pitts Lecture * By Invitation Only* Leonard Pitts Jr., author and columnist, will speak at Utica College on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the H. Thomas Clark Jr. Athletic Center. Mr. Pitts’ presentation, “A Single Garment of Destiny,” is based on a speech given by Martin Luther King Jr., and will address the issue of how different cultures need to learn to live as one. Utica and its surrounding communities are fortunate in having many individuals from a variety of ethnic backgrounds living among us, making Mr. Pitts’ speech all the more relevant. We believe that students would greatly benefit from his messages of tolerance and living as one cohesive community. We are pleased to offer certain groups the opportunity to reserve a block of reserved student seating for this special presentation. Group seating reservations are limited to groups numbering between 20 and 40 people, and must be made by Friday, March 9. Groups must arrive by 6:30 p.m. or their seats will be released. There is no cost to attend the event. Please enter the number of guests in your group in the "additional information" field of the registration form. Biography A native of Southern California, Mr. Pitts has worked as a columnist, a college professor, a radio producer and a lecturer during his 35-year career. However, he would describe himself first and foremost as a writer. In addition to his columns, he has authored three critically acclaimed books: the semi-autobiographical Becoming Dad: Black Men and the Journey to Fatherhood, his first novel, Before I Forget, and a collection of his columns, Forward From This Moment. In 2001, Mr. Pitts received the American Society of Newspaper Editors Award for Commentary/Column Writing, and in 2004, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for commentary. He is a three-time recipient of the National Association of Black Journalists’ Award of Excellence, a five-time recipient of the Atlantic City Press Club’s National Headliners Award, and a seven-time recipient of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Green Eyeshade Award.
