Professor, Author to Speak on China's War on Corruption
Pi Alpha Sigma Hosts Expert on China Studies

Professor to discuss rapid growth, rising corruption in China

Utica, NY (12/03/2015) - On Tuesday, Dec. 8, Andrew Wedeman, professor of political science and head of the China Studies Initiative at Georgia State University, will give a talk at Utica College titled, “Xi Jinpings’s Three-Year Tiger Hunt: China’s Ongoing War on Corruption.”As head of the China Studies Initiative at Georgia State, much of Wedeman’s political science research explores corruption in China. Similarly, that will be the topic of his talk at Utica College and his upcoming book.
Wedeman earned his doctorate in political science from the University of California. Prior to his position at Georgia State University, he was the director of the Asian Studies program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His publications include “Double Paradox: Rapid Growth and Rising Corruption in China,” which was selected by Foreign Affairs Magazine as one of the best international relations books of 2012, and “From Mao to Market: Rent Seeking, Local Protectionism, and Marketization in China.”
Pi Sigma Alpha, which has more than 700 chapters, is the only honor society in the country for students studying government and politics.
This event is free and open to the public. It will take place in UC’s Willard Conference Room located in DePerno Hall at 7 p.m.
