Utica, NY (12/09/2015) - Utica College will dedicate the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 9:30 a.m. The dedication will take place just prior to the Jen and Todd Hutton Invitational Track and Field Meet.

Harold “Tom” Clark Jr. and his wife Bernadette pledged $1.4 million toward the dome construction. At the groundbreaking ceremony in April, Clark announced that the facility would be named for UC President Todd S. Hutton and Hutton’s wife, Jennifer.

The dome – which is the second largest facility of its kind in North America – is 270 feet wide, 500 feet long and 82 feet high. It features an eight-lane, 200-meter NCAA competition indoor track, four multi-sport courts, a multi-sport artificial turf practice field, weight area, locker rooms, equipment checkout area and a concession stand. In addition, it features two sand pits for long jump and triple jump, two pole vault areas, multiple throwing circles, a batting cage and track and field offices.

The 135,000-square foot structure stands just behind the Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  Two layers of Teflon-coated polyester, separated by a layer of insulation, are set upon a concrete pad, while two large air-handling units, one at each end of the facility, keep the air-locked structure inflated.

The dome, designed by Alesia & Crewell Architects P.C. and manufactured by Yeadon, was constructed by The Hayner Hoyt Corporation.
